A dear friend of mine, whom I nicknamed “Matilda” because of certain similarities to the book and film, was my roommate in college last fall. She is only 16 - a young prodigy. However, she has abusive parents and reported them to authorities, concerned for her safety. Unfortunately her parents mustered an expensive lawyer who managed to get them declared innocent; in retaliation for her so-called rebellion, “Matilda” has been deprived of tuition, liberty, and social contact. She faces the prospect of legal and completely unjust house arrest until she turns 18.
However, after she attempted suicide earlier this month, her parents have cut her a deal. If she pays them back for the lawyer they hired to argue against her accusations of abuse, they will allow her to commute to our college and gain some of her life back again. They are not letting her work, hoping to make her exhaust her funds from previous jobs so she hasn’t the resources to run away - so I’m trying to circumvent that. Every penny will go to help her.
TL;DR Please, if you have anything to spare, donate what you can to help me get my friend back. I almost lost her for good and it’s breaking me apart.
You can help to donate by clicking the link at the top. Please help, no one should be forced to do any of this, no one should feel like they have to commit suicide or be wrongfully imprisoned in their own home.
